Sunday- Practice Tri in Paradise Park....

Went out the night before forMels bday, but somehow made myself go home early. I could have danced until 6 am though. I'm used to it from Spain. Unfortunately, I had to wake up at 6 am for a practice triathlon! Elaine picked me up in the morning, we loaded our bikes and were off. We got slightly lost on the way there, but we made it in time for sign-in. TIT set it up so it was just like a real triathlon. You sign up, get a number on your leg and arm, etc. I also picked up my tri uniform and a sweatshirt I won for hitting 1/2 my fund raising goal. Let me tell you, the tri shirt is so unflattering! It's a tight short shirt. EW! We set up our bikes and gear, threw on our wetsuits and headed down to the beach. This is only my second time swimming in the ocean with the wetsuit. I missed about 4 practices while being in Spain and most the other people in the team have been practicing in the ocean on their own. THe swim wasn't as bad as the first time in the ocean though. Thank goodness. Maybe the Mediterranean swimming helped. I mentally prepped myself a bit more and distracted brain while swimming. I was so proud of myself to make it through the 3/4 mile swim without any trouble. I ran to the transition area (T1) and changed into my biking shoes. I lost my goggles through all the transition. I hoped on my bike and was keeping up with the team. I wanted to stay close as to not get lost.

The ride was going great. I was really feeling it, we rode 18 miles (2 loops) around tiburon and back to Paradise Island. I even felt emotional 1/2 way through the ride as I was really proud of how far I've come. A big hill came and all of a sudden I lost the people I was following. One of the team in training cars came up and asked me if I was on my 1st or 2nd loop. I had no idea since I was just following people. I assumed it was my first. This is the beginning of me stressing out. I get to paradise beach on my bike and should have been done with the biking portion, but I thought I had another loop to do! I started riding about 6 miles before a TIT car pulled up to let me know I was off course. I was so upset. I ended up having to put my bike in teh car and take me to the transition area. I was on such a roll, that I was very mad at myself. I threw on my running shoes and started to run, but I guess the coaches could tell I was a mess. Heather, one of our captains is amazing and started to do the 4 mile run with me! She threw on Kurts shoes, she was in jeans and grabbed some random water bottle! She chatted the entire time and totally distracted me from my self pity. I finished the race not too behind a few other people. After all that, I was glad I kept going. I guess that's why we do practices. I need to pay attention to my surroundings more and count loops! That would be horrible to do that in the real race.

The tri kicked my butt. I was exhausted yesterday and got a massage and Kubuki to relax! That was the best part! The real tri isn't much longer then the practice today, so it's doable! Next weekend we go to Pacific grove to check out the real course.
